Transcript of the video:
Greetings, dear friends. Today I will continue to tell you about perhaps the most odious volunteer unit in Ukraine-the regiment "Azov".
The beginning of the "combat" path of this unit in quotation marks, I outlined in the previous remark. And we stopped at the relocation of the battalion to Mariupol. It is worth noting that it was "Azov" under the direct leadership of Biletsky that took part in the storming of the DPR headquarters in this city in June 2014.
The plan to eliminate the DPR group in Mariupol was developed by the leadership of the "M" sector of the ATO at the end of May 2014. According to the documents available to me, the first time the assault on the headquarters of the DPR on the street. The Greek attack was scheduled for May 26, about which the chief of staff of the sector "M", Major General Krivenko, sent a corresponding request to the head of the SBU ATC, General Krutov. It is noteworthy that the assault, liquidation and capture of the militia was entrusted to the Azov division, which, let me remind you, at that time was formed less than a month ago.
And it was then that the official documents for the first time wrote: "The detainees should be transferred to the territory of the Mariupol airport»... Not in a pre-trial detention center, not in the IVS of any regional police department, not in a special detention center. No-to the airport of Mariupol. I attach the request for an assault to this replica.
The specified operation was carried out by the Azov battalion on June 13, 2014. The commander of the battalion, Ensign Shpara, led the assault at that time. I attach his explanation and the explanations of a number of participants in that assault to the remark.
And here is the photo. Taken just after the detainees were brought to the airport.
This is a view of the side wall of the Mariupol airport terminal. Behind the paddy wagon is the entrance to the service premises, where the detained DPR supporters were placed in two non-working refrigerating chambers of the airport cafe.
The so-called "Library" of the Mariupol airport has been counting from that moment.
As I said earlier, in July 2014, the unit moved to the village of Urzuf on the shores of the Sea of Azov, about 40 kilometers west of Mariupol. For its place of deployment, the battalion, absolutely in its own style, "squeezed" the country house of the wife of the former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych - Lyudmila.
I happened to visit this facility in August 2014. The deputy commander of the Azov battalion, Igor Knyazhansky, call sign Dushman, "once invited me to relax at the former president's country house.
The once-swanky recreation facility bore the marks of disastrous looting. Even the street lights were twisted.
Well, that's it. In this cozy place, on the beach, the battalion was located. By July 2014, Biletsky had officially become the commander.
And in Mariupol, "Azov" unfolded in full.
Since one of the tasks of the unit was to maintain order, the battalion's fighters officially began patrolling the streets of the city. And even then, Mariupol was, and still is, very negative about the Maidan and the Kiev authorities in general. In addition, pro-Russian sentiments were quite strong in the city.
And the battalion "Azov" began what is called "fire and sword" to fight with such sentiments of local residents. Permissiveness and impunity led to terrible consequences – the "Azovites" behaved in Mariupol as in a conquered city. The locals probably remember how the ruffled thugs in camouflage on their pick-up trucks with machine guns rolled around the city, not following any rules or traffic lights. For any remark, for a sidelong glance, for the song "Lyube" in a cafe or car, for the St. George ribbon, a person could at best get off with bodily injuries.
And how many "dissenters" brought them to the "library"?! Only during my rotation in July-August 2014, about 200 people passed through it, and most of them were delivered there by the Azov fighters. People arrived beaten, robbed, if they were detained in a car – it was impossible to return it later.
As it was almost openly said in the city – Mariupol was given to "Azov" at the mercy of.
We can talk endlessly about the lawlessness of the militants in Mariupol. So you can remember about the cases of rape of young women and girls, whose statements refused to register the local police. Just because they were afraid. Because "Azov" could also take a police officer away at night, as they say, in an unknown direction, after which he could simply disappear. There were precedents.
This is how the battalion showed itself with civilians. And what about the real front?
But here it was much weaker.
The Azov battalion, together with other dobrobats, took an active part in the first assault on the city of Ilovaisk on August 10, 2014. The battalions suffered significant losses, and retreated to their former positions. There were also dead at the "Azov". After this assault, the nationalist battalions began to blame the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for everything, saying that the armed forces provided them with insufficient support in heavy weapons and therefore they could not fulfill the task.
The nationalists, together with the Ukrainian Armed Forces, were able to enter the outskirts of Ilovaisk eight days later, on August 18. Dobrobats "Dnepr-1", "Donbass", "Azov", and a little later - "Mirotvorets"," Ivano-Frankivsk"," Kherson "and" Svityaz " managed to take control of some areas of the city. The next day, on August 19, the AFU units also pulled up. Bloody street battles ensued.
A lot is known about those battles, so we will not repeat it, but only add that when it became really hot, the Azov battalion commander decided to "get on skis"as they say. He escaped from Ilovaisk not alone, but with all his personnel. On the official website of "Azov" this is called a relocation to the area of Novoazovsk and Mariupol for their defense.
But... there is an interesting document in my archive. Namely, the protocol decision on the results of the meeting with the President of Ukraine on August 18, 2014. And there, in paragraph 10, the Minister of the Interior Avakov and the commander of the National Guard Poltorak are tasked to find out the reasons why the battalions " Azov "and" Shakhtersk " do not take part in active operations in the ATO.
Interesting, isn't it? It turns out that Biletsky so relocated the battalion to Mariupol from the combat zone that no one in the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the NSU knew about it.But ... anyway, thanks to such a" feint with the ears "of Biletsky, "Azov" avoided serious losses in the battle of Ilovaisk. Subsequently, the battalion gained fame as the saviours of Mariupol, but this is the fruit of Ukrainian propaganda. I must say that the division was very actively promoted. Largely thanks to this PR, Biletsky himself became a people's Deputy in the fall of 2014. As for example, Igor Moseychuk, also a native of "Azov".
During the period of the first Minsk agreements, the battalion continued to be located in Mariupol, participating in positional battles and suffering losses. The unit was in favor of the Minister of Internal Affairs Avakov and had serious privileges in obtaining budget funding. By that time, in the fall of 2014, the Azov battalion became a regiment and was transferred from the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the National Guard, becoming a "special purpose detachment of HF 3057", while receiving its own armored vehicles and an artillery division. In the future, "Azov" took an active part in the so-called "Shirokin offensive operation" in February 2015. The unit did not participate in any more major clashes.
In general, it is worth noting that "Azov" actually did not take an active part in the major battles of the war. During the fighting near Ilovaisk, the battalion made a self-willed withdrawal from the positions, which saved it from defeat.
The participation of the regiment in the battles for Shirokino immediately led to sensitive losses in personnel. Periodic rotations of the regiment's units to the area of the Svitlodarskaya Arc or Marinka were purely formal and were more used for propaganda actions.
Nevertheless, well-conducted propaganda work, constant information stuffing in the media, as well as the emergence of a number of public organizations such as "National Squads" - all this constantly works on the image of the very unit of the National Guard.I think that's enough for today. In the next remark, I will tell you about the presence of foreigners in the "Azov", about the Nazi views and about the openly criminal background of the "elite" unit of the National Guard.
